Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy requires 16 GB of RAM, 75 GB of free SSD space, Windows 10 or 11 64-bit, and a DirectX 12-capable graphics card. The minimum target is 1080p at 30 FPS on Low with a GTX 1060 6 GB or RX 5500 XT, while the recommended target is 1080p at 60 FPS on Ultra with an RTX 3060 Ti or RX 6700 XT. Both tiers require an SSD, a 4-core/8-thread CPU, DirectX 12.1 GPU support, and Shader Model 6.6.

Minimum PC requirements

The minimum specification is intended for 1920×1080, 30 FPS, and the Low preset. Meeting it should make the game playable at that stated target, but it does not guarantee a locked frame rate in every combat arena or detailed island environment. A weaker GPU, less VRAM, or a hard disk drive falls outside the published minimum even if the game can launch.

ComponentMinimum requirement
Operating systemWindows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit
ProcessorAMD Ryzen 3 3100 or Intel Core i3-12100
Memory16 GB RAM
GraphicsAMD Radeon RX 5500 XT or Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060
Video memory6 GB VRAM
DirectXVersion 12; DX12.1-class GPU support required
Storage75 GB available on an SSD
Performance target1080p, Low preset, 30 FPS

The CPU requirement also specifies at least four cores and eight threads. That note is important because an older processor with a similar name or clock speed may still lack the required thread count or modern instruction support. Compare the full model number rather than judging from “Core i3” or “Ryzen 3” alone.

The recommended tier targets 1920×1080, 60 FPS, and the Ultra preset. It doubles the stated VRAM floor from 6 GB to 8 GB and moves to a significantly stronger modern GPU. The RAM and storage amounts remain the same, so graphics performance is the biggest difference between the two official tiers.

ComponentRecommended requirement
Operating systemWindows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit
ProcessorAMD Ryzen 5 5600X or Intel Core i5-12400F
Memory16 GB RAM
GraphicsAMD Radeon RX 6700 XT or Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti
Video memory8 GB VRAM
DirectXVersion 12; DX12.1-class GPU support required
Storage75 GB available on an SSD
Performance target1080p, Ultra preset, 60 FPS

“Recommended” does not mean 1440p or 4K at maximum settings. The official note explicitly ties this tier to 1080p Ultra at 60 FPS, so higher resolutions increase GPU load beyond the published target. Players with a 1440p or 4K display should expect to tune settings, use an available upscaling option, or accept a lower frame rate.

CPU and RAM explained

Resonance lists 16 GB of system memory for both minimum and recommended configurations. That makes 8 GB a clear below-spec setup, especially when Windows, launchers, browser tabs, recording software, or overlays are using memory in the background. Close unnecessary applications before troubleshooting stutter, but do not expect that cleanup to substitute for missing physical RAM.

The Ryzen 3 3100 and Core i3-12100 define the minimum CPU class, while the Ryzen 5 5600X and Core i5-12400F represent the recommended tier. Combat timing, streaming detailed environments, and moving between puzzle spaces can all expose CPU limits even when the average frame rate looks acceptable. Keep the game on a stable performance profile and watch for background processes before lowering only graphics settings.

GPU and VRAM explained

At minimum, the official list calls for a 6 GB GTX 1060 or RX 5500 XT. The recommended 8 GB RTX 3060 Ti or RX 6700 XT provides more processing power and memory headroom for the Ultra preset. Laptop GPUs with a familiar model name may perform differently from desktop versions because power limits and cooling vary.

VRAM is separate from the computer's 16 GB of system RAM. Reducing texture quality is the most direct response when a supported GPU runs out of video memory, while shadows, effects, and resolution scaling can reduce broader GPU load. Do not assume an integrated GPU qualifies simply because the PC has 16 GB of shared memory.

Why an SSD is mandatory

The Steam requirements state SSD Required at both tiers, not merely recommended. Resonance moves through detailed environments, combat spaces, ruins, and narrative transitions that depend on timely asset streaming. Installing on a mechanical hard drive may cause loading or traversal problems even when the CPU and GPU meet the list.

Reserve more than exactly 75 GB when possible. The listed figure covers available storage for the game, while installation, decompression, save data, shader caches, and later patches need working room. Keeping additional free space also helps the operating system and SSD avoid performance problems caused by an almost-full drive.

DirectX and Shader Model requirements

The store lists DirectX 12 and adds a requirement for GPU support equivalent to DirectX 12.1 and Shader Model 6.6. Having DirectX 12 installed in Windows does not automatically prove that an older graphics card supports every required hardware feature. Update the GPU driver and compare the exact card with the official minimum before treating a launch error as a game bug.

A 64-bit processor and 64-bit operating system are required as well. Windows compatibility modes cannot turn a 32-bit installation into a supported configuration. If diagnostic tools report the wrong feature level or shader model, the practical solution may be a supported GPU rather than another copy of the DirectX installer.

Can your PC run Resonance?

If your hardware equals or exceeds the minimum in every row, start at 1080p Low and use a 30 FPS cap while checking stability. If it approaches the recommended tier, begin at 1080p High or Ultra and measure demanding combat and exploration rather than judging performance from a quiet opening room. Hardware between the two tiers should use a mixed preset, lowering the most expensive settings before reducing texture quality when enough VRAM is available.

For laptops, confirm that the game uses the dedicated GPU instead of integrated graphics and connect the power adapter before testing. Update Windows and the graphics driver, disable unnecessary overlays, and let shader compilation finish where applicable. The developers recommend a controller for the best experience, although keyboard and mouse are fully supported.
